Beth DeSombre: Music

For Winter

(Beth DeSombre)
For Winter

My daddy is a farmer in Ohio
Every day I ride with him, through the corn rows
And we sing and talk and look up at the sky together
Wond’ring ‘bout the future, like whether it will rain tomorrow
And what’s for dinner Sunday night

But now the corn is mowed down for winter
The sky is gray, the fields are bare
The corn is mowed down for winter
And it won’t be back next year

My daddy’s gonna drive a truck in Ohio
But I can’t ride with him; he goes too far away
And he says we’ll still talk when he comes home on Friday evenings
Thinking ‘bout the old times, like how the corn looked in the rain
And when we sang on harvest day

But now the corn is mowed down for winter
The sky is gray, the fields are bare
The corn is mowed down for winter
And it won’t be back next year

I want to be a farmer in Ohio
To ride the rows and watch the sky and share them with my dad
But now dad and I talk and sometimes we sit home together
Wond’ring ‘bout the future, like what I’ll have to give my children
And what we’ll do without our farm

Because the corn is mowed down for winter
The sky is gray, the fields are bare
The corn is mowed down for winter
And it won’t be back next year
Oh where will we be next year?
